P-style Bass

I was recently asked to join a band as a bass player, but I didn't have a bass guitar of my own. That was the only excuse I needed to build one.

This is what I built - an ash-bodied P-bass with a walnut neck. I finished it in toffee butterscotch nitrocellulose with an oiled neck, and a white single-ply pickguard. The pickup was handwound in Ireland by Moondot Music. 

This is what I think of when I imagine a bass guitar. A real workhorse with simple appointments and features and a great punchy sound. I'd love to build more of these P-style basses. 

Standard Specification

• Alder or ash body with optional edge binding

• Maple neck with maple, rosewood or salvaged jarrahwood fretboard

• Handwound P-style pickup by Moondot Music (other options available)

• Traditional bridge

• Finished with nitrocellulose lacquer 

• Handmade from beginning to end

Many custom options are available, including timber choice, and pickup choice and configuration. You can even have Marconi knobs like the ones in the photos.
